MMA2OM FORUM TIPS
Above all, check out the FAQ by clicking "Help"
near the top, right of the screen, under your ID.
1. "My Controls." When you log-on you will see your ID in the upper right corner of the page. This is a pull-down menu. Click it to control and manage your profile and settings. Play around with the options.. (See also #5.)
2. "Making New Topic Posts." If you want to add a new thread to a forum, click the "New Topic" icon at either the top or bottom of the forum. You then name a subject and type a brief description of the post. You can insert code for smilies by clicking the samples in the box on the left, or click the link at the bottom of that box for more. If you want to play around with these functions, use the test forum.
3. Replying to a Post. If you are replying (this is a little tricky) the reply button IS NOT on the post, but at the bottom of the thread's page. If you click the button that says - Reply " - it will quote the original post and you can respond below the quote tabs. Some forums also have a "quick reply" button at the bottom of the thread. This opens a little box on the same page where you can type a reply. The "quick reply" does not have the bells and whistles the "reply" button does.
4. Will my commands from other boards work? Some will, some are different. The language is the same, but remember our administrator, or the owner will customize to a great extent. I prefer to keep this product "out of the box" as much as possible so later editions can be easily upgraded. I am not a teckkie. You will not find all the bells and whistles that you will with UBBThreads, BBForums, and others, but we do have other features they don't. Feel free to use the test forum to play around.
5. Setting Avatars, Signature. Click on your at the top right of the forums screen. Then select "My Profile" from the pull-down men under personal profile. You may choose one of those in the system, link to a thumbnail on the web or upload a file. Files permitted are gif .jpeg .jpg .swf .png. Size is limited to 64 x 64 pixels. To edit signature, click on "Edit Signature" under personal profile. Wasn't that easy? Even I could do it first time. Use the test forum to experiment.
6. My Assistant. The "My Assistant" has been eliminated; however, you will see a lot of helpful link on the right column of the forums page. Click the link near the top that says "View New Content." The private messenger is found in the pull-down menu under your ID, top right corner.
7. Important! Logging in and Passwords: IDs and passwords are case sensitive. We suggest you use all lower case. Make sure your caps lock is off. Security is a big feature on this board, and to that end, all passwords are encrypted when you register. This means that we cannot e-mail your password to you as we hold no record of your 'unencrypted' password. You can however, apply to have your password reset. If you forget your password: Click the "login" link. Type your ID. Find the link that says " I've forgotten my password! Click here! " A new password will be sent to you. If you forget your ID, e-mail Bear, and suggest what it might have been, tell approximately the date your first registered and the e-mail address you used. We do not have access to your passwords.
8. Security of Passwords. As you probably know, most sites put a "cookie" on your computer with your ID and password. If you are using someone else's computer or a family computer, you probably do not want that cookie on your computer. HOWEVER, if you do not click the button "remember me" and you go to post, the program will treat you as a guest. So in that case, here is what you need to do: Click "remember me;" then before you leave the site click "Delete cookies set by this board;" then click "Logout." This will wipe out your record and some snoop cannot find your ID and/or password. "Delete My Cookies" will be found at the extreme bottom, left of the Forum Index page. To get to the Forum Index, click the back bar at the top of any page.
NEVER give a password to anyone, INCLUDING US! When registering on "friends" sites such as Facebook, My Space, You Tube, Google, Yahoo, etc., do not give them the password for your e-mails. If you do, they will spam all your friends telling them you want them to join.
9. Bypassing the front page when logging in: We urge you to go in through the "front door," as this improves our standing in the search engines.
10. Contacting members and being contacted by other members: One of the very powerful tools of IPB is the ability to contact other members. On each each post on the left is an small icon that looks like an envelope. Click to send a PM.
A. PM - You can send him a private message on the board. He will receive an e-mail telling him to come and check his private messages. When he signs on the message window will pop up.
B. IM - If he is on any of the various IM programs, such as AIM, MSN, ICQ, or Yahoo, click the member's ID, and it will tell you. If you don't see the button, he has not revealed his ID in his profile.
C. E-mail - THIS IN IMPORTANT! - You can send an e-mail from mma2om. It will not show you the member's e-mail address. If you receive such an e-mail, don't worry, the sender does not have your e-mail address. The address on mma2om is a send-only address. If you click to reply then, of course, he will see your e-mail address. He will not see it unless you reply. His e-mail address IS shown in the < > after mma2om. Go to "My Controls" and set your options to receive e-mail.
11. Changing the Appearance. If you are unhappy with the appearance of the forums, there are different style sheets you can use. Use the drop down box at the bottom of the page to select. You can set your options for the entire forums or one forum at a time.
12. HOW TO POST PICTURES:
Posting Pictures is a Five-Step Process:
A. Click New Topic. Give your postings a title.
B. Click the Browse button in the attachments section, and find the picture you want on your hard disk.
C. Click "Attach this File"
Repeat Steps B and C for each picture.
D. Click "Add to post" for each picture. This will insert a tag that looks like this:
[ attachmentid=999]
Put a space between each tag. Only put about three tags on a line, then hit the "enter" key twice and start a new line.
E. Finally click "Post New Topic."
13. Those little links under the logo bar at the top of the forum: MMA2OM (Our site), FORMS, MEMBERS, CALENDAR. To the right is a search box and link to click to do advanced search. You can search one forum or all for key words.
The logo bar itself is interactive. Click anywhere on the bar on any page and you will be brought back to the top of the forums index.
Other controls are found in a pull-down menu under your ID in the upper right corner. You must be logged in to access these controls.
For maximum enjoyment, complete your profile.
Be sure to click "help" under your ID to read the FAQ, "search" to search the files, "members" to look at and sort the list of members, "calendar" for other neat toys.
14. New and Expanded Profiles. Our forum software has many new features in the profile. One is the ability to add a personal picture. This picture is in addition to the avatar. Avatars which are included in every post you make can be seen by the public. You personal picture can only be seen by registered members, so it may be adult--but please, no hard-core XXX pictures. See Guidelines for what can be posted. Click on "My Controls" and edit your profile add a picture, etc. Another new feature is to add a profile you like as a "friend.". What you put under "interests" will be shown on every post.
15. Finding a Friend. While MMA2OM is not a hook up site, there are many opportunities to find friends for chat or more. The forums are fully searchable, including "Where Are You?" There is also a profile item - State, Province, Country - which is also searchable. There is a new forum for members to post their webcam IDs.
ONE FINAL NOTE: There are six tiers of forums visible to members. Non-registered-guests can only view the top two and the last. These three forums are visible only to members. Search "spiders" crawl the open forums, but they cannot access the private ones. Be careful what you post in the open. Never post your e-mail, address, or phone number anywhere on the web that is not password protected. IT WILL SHOW UP ON GOOGLE AND THE REST!
